About the Program
The Choices for the 21st Century Education Program is a national education initiative based at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies.
The program seeks to empower young people with the skills, knowledge, and participatory habits to be engaged citizens who are capable of addressing international issues through thoughtful public discourse and informed decision making.
Program Areas The Choices Program develops teaching resources on historical and current international issues, provides professional development for classroom teachers, and sponsors programs that engage students beyond the classroom. www.choices.edu
Facing the Future:
About the Program
Facing the Future is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and motivating today’s students to be responsible stewards of tomorrow’s world. The organization provides standards-based hands-on lessons, student textbooks, curriculum units, and professional development opportunities for educators that promote critical thinking on global issues, sustainability and positive solutions. Interconnected issues including population, poverty, consumption, conflict, and climate change are examined through a holistic “systems thinking†perspective. Facing the Future curriculum is in use across multiple subject areas in all 50 U.S. states and over 50 countries in grades K-12 as well as undergraduate and graduate classes. New York Times Learning Network:
About the program:
The New York Times Learning Network is a free service for students in grades 3-12, their teachers and parents. The site is updated Monday through Friday throughout the year. More information is available at www.nytimes.com/learning
