How to help

Here is a list of aid organizations working in the Chad/Darfur region:

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees works in a variety of locations throughout the world to aid and protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Currently in eastern Chad, some 144,000 Sudanese refugees are now integrated into nine UNHCR camps away from the Chad-Sudan border.

Since 1971 MSF has delivered emergency aid to victims of armed conflict, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters, and to others who lack health care due to social or geographical isolation. Since September 2003, MSF has been present in both Darfur and Chad assisting the internally displaced persons and the refugees during the Darfur crisis.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is a neutral humanitarian organization which works around the world to protect and assist people affected by armed conflicts and internal disturbances. It is the founding body for the International Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement. The ICRC has responded to the Darfur crisis by bringing aid to the displaced and war-wounded people and by providing material assistance for healthcare facilities and distributing foodstuffs.

The World Food Program is the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against global hunger. WFP is currently active in both Chad and Sudan providing food for the refugees and internally displaced persons.

CARE was founded in 1945 to bring relief to survivors of World War II. They have since continued to provide aid for the poorest communities around the world. CARE currently operates four refugee camps in Chad and works in various regions throughout Sudan, including Darfur, undertaking a variety of activities including water and sanitation, nutrition, primary health care, maternal and child health, peace building and improved seed distribution.
