The PULSE: Human Rights in Burma
Date: Tuesday, February 19th and Thursday, February 21st In September of 2007, hundreds of monks in Rangoon captured the world's attention by peacefully protesting an oppressive military regime that has been controlling Burma for nearly 20 years. Since then, the reigning military junta has been denounced worldwide for the continued violation of human rights, including confining the pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and imprisoning countless other activists. In this videoconference series, students gather to discuss the current conditions in Burma, also known as Myanmar, and what can be done on an international, national, and personal level to effect change. They also have the opportunity to interact with pro-democracy activist Cristina Moon of the US Campaign for Burma and come to a better understanding of the historical buildup to the current situation and possibilities for improvement.
