References to a "clash of civilizations" between the Arab World and the West appear constantly in the news, particularly since the events of September 11, 2001, thrust the issue once more to the center stage. Considering the U.S. involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts and the continuous media analysis devoted to Islam and the West, Israel and Palestine, and more, students come together to discuss their opinions on these pressing conflicts.

After deliberating U.S. and international policy on the Middle East and the perceptions and misperceptions that fuel the conflict, students direct questions to a special guest speaker on the topic.

Tuesday, February 26: Students gather in groups of up to three classes to talk openly about the source of conflict between the East and the West and what the U.S. and the rest of the Western world should do about it.  This session is moderated by a GNG staff member.

Available time slots:
Middle School: 11 am – 12 pm (EST)
High School: 9 – 10 am | 1 - 2 pm (EST)

Thursday, February 28: Students speak directly with an expert on the Arab World and the U.S. on the nature of the conflicts and what they can do to break down misperceptions.

Available time slots:
Middle and High: 9 – 10 am | 11 am -12 pm (EST)
