The conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan – a conflict the U.S. government has termed genocide - has already claimed the lives of between 200,000 and 400,000 people since 2003. With no end to the violence in sight, the United Nations has described the situation facing the refugees in and outside of Darfur as the worst humanitarian crisis in the world today.
This videoconferencing series addresses the issues of the Darfur crisis and
encourages students to consider what the U.S. and international involvement
should be. Classes will prepare for this program with the Choices for the 21st
Century Education Program lesson plan Violence
in Darfur, Sudan.

Participants were paired with up to two other schools within the U.S. The videoconference was moderated by a GNG staff member.
At the end of the videoconference, students learned about ways they can get funding for their own special projects through a visit from Sabeen Pirani, Team Leader for Youth Venture.
