Project Voice — After the War

Life in Baghdad After the War: "And you know... when a bomb fell over someplace, you could just feel the ground shaking under your feet." play clip

Amin: "There was a great battle in our area, a tank was on that camp and it was fighting with the... U.S. forces and it started shooting everywhere and attacked a house - my neighbor. It was a bad battle. We weren't here because we left. But we were happy to return back to our home and see that nothing has been destroyed, because many of the homes have big damage. The area was happy, just happy that everyone's safe." play clip

"Remember what I told you about security? Three hours after you left, my neighbor's house was attacked by six Iraqi tanks." play clip

Farah: "We saw the worst things, you can't even imagine the kinds of things... hearing explosions every day... we couldn't sleep at night... It was - I can't tell you about it." play clip

Shakir: (Talking about the soldiers) "Some people will say 'I hate wars - I don't want to be here... I don't like being in the war... I was against the war, I was protesting against the war..." And a lot of people will say, 'No, I want to be here, I'm being paid' ... stuff like that." play clip

Akram: "My mother used to get frightened when you know... there was bombing, and she just took the kids and stayed right here, and read the Holy Koran and prayed to God 'just save us.'" play clip
