Q: My school doesn’t
have videoconferencing. How can my class participate?
A: You’d be surprised by the number of public videoconferencing rooms
out there. Check out the yellow pages for your town or city and you just might
be able to use facilities close by at a very cheap rate. Another alternative
is to request sponsorship from a local company with a videoconferencing setup.
Q: Can I participate in more than one country?
A: In order to allow as many schools as possible to participate, we are limiting
individual schools' participation to two countries.
Q: What time will the conferences start at?
A: Given that we will be broadcasting from different places across the globe,
it will be a challenge to ensure that they all take place at the same time (because
of different time zones). Most will take place early morning. Look at
exact times.
Q: How many videoconferences are there per country?
A: Three. Check out the 123s of CURRENTS registration for more info.
Q: Does my class have to participate in all three events?
A: Yes, once signed up for a country, a class will be expected to participate
in all three videoconferences.
Q: Do I have to pay for international network charges for the videoconference?
A: No, we will be using a videoconferencing bridge here in the US, which your
class will be required to dial into. You will therefore incur a national network
charge, NOT an international charge.
Q: How long is each video conference?
A: Each videoconference will last approximately 60 minutes.
Q: What is Global Nomads Group?
A: Global Nomads Group (GNG) is an educational non-profit organization with
the mission of fostering dialogue and understanding among the world's youth.
The organization was founded in 1998. Never heard of GNG before? Learn more
