In the spring of 2007 Global Nomads Group traveled
around the world with Semester At Sea to talk with students about their religions.
In this DVD four teenagers from four corners of the
globe walk us through their lives, their religions, and their hopes for the
future. This exciting collection of four short documentaries profiles young
people from Brazil, South Africa, Malaysia and India who share their differences
and, in the process, show how strikingly similar they all are.

Candomblé in Brazil
Junior is a young man living in the favelas of Salvador, Brazil, struggling
to overcome the obstacles of poverty and racism. Candomblé, a religion
based on African traditions brought to Brazil by slaves, is a way for Junior
to connect with his roots and achieve his goals in life. |

Christianity in South Africa
During the apartheid era, many churches played a role in the oppression
of non-white South Africans. Today many South Africans are still devout
followers of the Church despite the dark past. In this video two Cape Townians,
Garrett and Candace, give us a glimpse into the lives of post-apartheid
youth and how they practice Christianity. |

Hinduism in India
On the outskirts of Chennai, India we meet Nythia, a bright Indian girl
who studies hard and loves to laugh. We follow her through a typical trip
to her Hindu temple and break bread with her family during festival time. |

Islam in Malaysia
Alia is just like many teenagers you know - she likes to shop for shoes
at the mall and worries about acing her exams. But every day, six times
a day, she prays. Islam is often associated with the Middle East, but in
this unique video, Alia shows us how Malaysians practice Islam. |
