Summit of the Americas (2001): Global Nomads Group supports Dialogue Between Nations to collect resources on indigenous issues. Content to be re-purposed into educational modules for K-12 students

Quebec (April 22, 2001) -- Global Nomads Group (GNG), a leading educational broadcasting organization, today completed its first collaboration with Dialogue Between Nations at the 3rd Summit of the Americas. Operating alongside the world's media organizations, GNG post-produced, edited, and archived a series of short documentaries on indigenous issues and rights, working from video feeds of interviews and speeches gathered over the course of the summit.

The clips, which can be seen by the general public on Dialogue Between Nations' website, provide one-of-a-kind insight into the representation of indigenous populations at the Summit, as well as an indigenous person's perspective of the discussions raised at the event, which gathered leaders from 34 nations. They also explore the possible ramifications of the proposed FTAA (Free Trade Area Agreement) on the approximately 40 million indigenous peoples living within the Western Hemisphere.

Next steps

Later this year, Dragonfly Blue Productions, the parent company of Dialogue Between Nations, will re-purpose the content gathered at the summit to complement educational modules that will aim to teach K-12 students about indigenous peoples' cultures, history, rights, and challenges. It is expected that these modules will be made available to schools by the end of the year 2001.
