What's Global Nomads Group?
Global Nomads Group is a 501 c (3) educational non-profit organization with
the mission of fostering dialogue and understanding among the world's youth.
What's Mozambique Alive?
Mozambique Alive is a live interactive educational program that will
bring your students face-to-face with their peers in Mozambique to learn about
Mozambican culture and history. It will also be an opportunity for them to reflect
on what makes up their own culture.
The principal focus of Mozambique Alive will
be on:
- Culture
- Mozambican Independence and the Civil War
- Gender Issues
How many videoconferences does Mozambique Alive have?
There will be nine unique 60-minute broadcasts.
* The Mozambique Alive website will have all kinds of supplemental
material, such as background information on all broadcasts and many webumentaries
including, but not limited to, the subjects to be discussed in the 9 video conferences.
Why Mozambique?
Mozambique is a country with breathtaking landscapes, a diverse population and
rich cultural traditions. Still recovering from a history of prolonged civil
war, the country's reconstruction efforts are inspiring evidence of a more optimistic
future.
Mozambique
has a long tradition of co-existence between different races, ethnic groups,
and religions. Contrary to many other places in the world, the cultural and
religious diversity has rarely been the reason for conflicts in Mozambique.
This is evident in the country's art, cookery, music and dance traditions, which
reflect the variety of histories and family values that together create the
identity of modern Mozambique.
Imagine being able to take your students on a journey that will highlight this
beauty?
Global Nomads Group plans to do just that. Your students will have Mozambique
brought into their classroom, through the eyes of their Mozambican peers.
What is the difference between Interactive
and View-Only participation?
As the name suggest, students participating as an Interactive school
can directly interact with the people on the other side of the broadcast, whether
these be historians or other students. Interactive schools have access to lesson
plans, background reading, short video clips (“webumentaries”),
and more on the Mozambique Alive website.
View-only participation means that
your school will be able to watch the broadcasts live, but cannot directly ask
questions. Instead, view-only students are asked to send in questions at least
4 days prior to each broadcast at the following email: MozambiqueAlive@gng.org.
View only schools have access to the same lesson plans and material provided
to Interactive Schools.
What is an Ambassador School?
An Ambassador School is a school that participates in every
broadcast (9) interactively, and acts as an Ambassador to their country. This
demands a high level of dedication and time from both teachers and students,
and might not be for everyone. Slots for Ambassador Schools are VERY limited.
What
are the costs?
Interactive: $210 per conference, per school (includes port charges)
View-Only: $125 per conference, per school (includes
port charges)
Ambassador: $1900 (all 9 broadcasts – includes
port charges)
What if my school does not have video conferencing?
You’d be surprised by the number of public videoconferencing rooms out
there. Check out the yellow pages for your town or city and you just might be
able to use facilities close by at a very cheap rate. Another alternative is
to request sponsorship from a local company with a videoconferencing setup.
* Centers usually charge between $250.00 and $500.00 dollars an hour.
