Connecting Voices: FAQ

Q: My school doesn’t have videoconferencing. How can my class participate?
A: You’d be surprised by the number of public videoconferencing rooms out there. Check out the yellow pages for your town or city and you just might be able to use facilities close by at a very cheap rate. Another alternative is to request sponsorship from a local company with a videoconferencing setup. After the program, we will post an archived version of the conference off of the website. Check back after November 16th to view the stream.

Q: Can I be an Ambassador School ?
A: Unfortunately, all of the Ambassador School slots are full. However, please feel free to register as a View-Only to view the program live at your school over existing videoconferencing facilities.

Q: How is one chosen to be an Ambassador School?
A: Ambassador schools are chosen on a first-come, first-served basis, based upon the interest level and commitment of the facilitator. These schools have been chosen through the YES network based upon their interest and availability of videoconferencing resources.

Q: What is a View Only School?
A: A View Only School, is a school who watches the broadcast live over their own videoconferencing facilities, however is not participating directly in the live dialogue with the Ambassador Schools.

Q: What time will the conferences start at?
A: The conference will begin promptly at 12:00 ET (USA), November 16, 2005. We will dial your school about 30 minutes before the videoconference. Please have your students assembled 30 minutes prior to the conference.

Q: Do I have to pay for international network charges for the videoconference?
A: No, we will be using a videoconferencing bridge here in the US, which will dial your school directly. There are no costs associated with this program. It is free for all interested schools.

Q: How long is the videoconference?
