CURRENTS '07 - Meet the Team
Mark von Sponeck
One of GNG's founders, Mark is now based in Mozambique helping to provide content to youth across the world on issues ranging from worldwide dilemmas such as Malaria and Landmines to what it is like being a volunteer living in Africa. He has successfully planned and executed programs for GNG in places such as Iraq, Rwanda and most recently Mozambique. Mark is half German/half American and has lived most of his life in Africa and Asia. He has traveled extensively throughout much of the rest of the world. Prior to founding Global Nomads Group, Mark spent sometime with the International Scientific Counsel for Island Development, a small NGO, as a program officer, working on their Journal and doing fundraising. He completed his B.A. in International Business from the American University of Paris (AUP) in 1996.
Joanna Lauren Cyprys
Joanna Cyprys was born and raised in the suburbs of New York City. After earning a degree in Film and Media Arts from Temple University she joined the team at Global Nomads Group during January of 2006. As Coordinator of the Post Production Department, Joanna overseas the completion of all documentary and webumentary material. Prior to GNG, Joanna assisted the Program and Events coordinator at the International Documentary Association in LA. Her personal projects focus on gender issues and the rights of women. She is most looking forward to being able to explore the world in this very unique way.
Ben Wu
Since graduating from UC San Diego in 1999 with a degree in Media Methods, Ben Wu has worked primarily in the camera and lighting areas of television production, both here in the US and abroad. Having recently completed his MA from the Documentary Film & Video Program at Stanford University, Ben is passionate about using cinema to bring a new perspective to the subcultures and individuals that exist on the fringes of our society. His films have screened at numerous film festivals across the country, and Unhitched, his film about a struggling trailer park community in Northern California, earned him a Student Academy Award.
